Samiksha Goyal

I am a professional philosopher.

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Extending New Narratives Project at Simon Fraser University, Canada. My research during this fellowship focuses on retrieving Śrīmad Rajchandra’s contributions to virtue ethics, particularly his account of detachment and moral agency.

My research expertise is in classical and contemporary Indian philosophy and Religions, Western Moral Philosophy, and Social and Political Philosophy. My research focuses on the issues involved in balancing subjectivity and objectivity in moral deliberations, where I argue that virtue theory can help us address these issues. You can find my recent publications here and my upcoming research talks here.

I was recently conferred a Doctorate in Philosophy at the Philosophy Department, Monash University, Australia. My PhD dissertation is titled Gandhi’s Anāsakti Yoga, Disinterest, and Moral Inquiry. You can read the abstract of my dissertation here. I was competitively selected for the Postgraduation Publication Award by Monash University. Before PhD, I earned an MPhil in Philosophy by research at the University of Delhi.

I have been teaching philosophy since 2016. I have taught a range of courses such as Critical Thinking, Applied Ethics, Ethics of Global Conflict, Moral Philosophy, and Indian philosophy in Australia at Monash University and Australian Catholic University as well as in India at various colleges of the University of Delhi.

I also serve as a Book Reviews Editor for Sophia (Springer). If you’d like your book reviewed in Sophia, feel free to get in touch.

Apart from philosophy, I often indulge in classical Indian music, hiking the mountains, painting En plein air, bird photography, and cooking my favourite food.
